Throwback Thursday: Los Abrigados

Here’s the first logo I ever designed while working at a small advertising agency in Phoenix. A little dated I know but after all it is thirty years old. And believe it or not, they are still using it! Maybe I should contact them and see if they are ready to update their look?
Evolution of a logo: how did they get from here to there?

When companies update their identities sometimes the changes are so subtle that loyal customers don’t really notice. At other times the reason for a more dramatic change may be a shift in the brand’s direction, a merger, or they simply need a look that is more current. I’ve put together a collection here of some […]
Vintage advertising that raises the question: “What were they thinking?”

Hard to believe when Coca Cola first came on the market it was advertised as a medicinal product. A couple of strung out toddlers, it’s no wonder, this stuff contained morphine! Mrs. Winslow looks very relaxed, I wonder what was in this one? Yes, you read that product name right. Don’t you love it, […]
Unique packaging from companies that are going green.

People are becoming more and more environmentally conscious these days. It is even having an impact on how people choose the products they buy. Beautiful posters for some creative inspiration

Meet My New Addition

I think designing and producing an annual report is a little like having a baby. I found out I was expecting last April and she was finally delivered on December 21, 2009 at 4:00 pm. Let me introduce you to The Mary Lou Fulton Institute and Graduate School of Education 2008-2009 Annual Report. I know, […]
Designers and Their Other Creative Side

You might think it odd that professional designers who ooze creativity all day long would need another creative outlet. I’m here to tell you “we do”. After using up one set of creative juices in our profession, it’s nice to focus your creative energy in a different direction. I’ve spent the better part of the […]
Creating Designs with Textures and Swirls
For those who think Twitter is for the birds (no pun intended…well, maybe) I came across a great blog in a recent tweet that gave a step-by-step tutorial on how to create swirls and flourishes in Adobe Illustrator. I learned more about Illustrator’s capabilities in one exercise than I had in several years of using […]
